Ms. Brittany Barber-Alexander, MSW, LICSW/LCSW-C, BCD, is an award-winning, board-certified clinical social work supervisor licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. With over 13 years of clinical experience, she is recognized for her compassionate and solution-focused approach to care.

She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from Bowie State University and her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Clinical and Mental Health from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Ms. Barber-Alexander is an expert in providing supportive care to individuals, families, and groups to enhance social and psychological functioning. She has extensive experience in trauma, infectious disease, neurology, palliative care, and hospice care, and has played an instrumental role in resource coordination and discharge planning for medically complex cases. Her clinical work spans both private and federal hospital settings, including the National Institutes of Health and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Ms. Barber-Alexander remains active in direct clinical care, serving PRN at Johns Hopkins Suburban Hospital as a social worker and discharge planner. Through her private practice, BBA Social Work Services, LLC, she provides licensure preparation, case consultation, résumé development, and individual and group supervision for emerging social workers. To date, she has successfully helped more than 25 students pass their master’s and clinical licensure exams. She is also exploring partnerships with ASWB and SWES to ensure her students have access to the most current test preparation materials.

Through her private practice Ms. Barber-Alexander also provides Private Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counseling services, offering short-term therapy and referrals for concerns such as stress, family issues, financial challenges, anxiety, depression, and substance use.

Ms. Barber-Alexander also extends her expertise to public health policy and program development. At the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in Rockville, Maryland, she serves as a Public Health Advisor and Clinical Social Worker on the Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) team. In this role, she helps American Indian and Alaska Native communities implement grants to address substance use and mental health disparities. Across all her roles, Ms. Barber-Alexander is a fierce advocate for underrepresented populations and is deeply committed to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equity in the social work profession and the communities it serves.
